Transportation is a major issue right now and the subway is one of the main ways to travel. In New York, 4.3 million people used the subway every day before the pandemic. Now, 1 million people are using this system as they are transitioning into their normal life. This is an immediate problem because this number will continue increasing. People are trying to keep as much space between them and others as possible, but it is sometimes difficult especially in these closed spaces where crowds form. But, we have a solution that can help create a much safer environment where social distance is encouraged and puts passengers at ease.

Ride Saver is a plugin connected to apps like the NYC Subway that guides you through the crowds. With this plugin, you will be able to know how crowded the train cars are, so you can take the least occupied. This will be attained by data provided through the already existing subway apps that use GPS and Bluetooth. This will allow users to travel safely, lowering the risk of getting sick. The plugin will be useful even after the crisis is over as users will be able to travel comfortably without getting into a crowded place.

Users' privacy will be protected as the data provided by their devices will be anonymous.  Besides, location and Bluetooth services will only be active when tapping into the system and deactivated when leaving the station by using geofences. This plugin can be further developed by being applied in different global transportation apps as well as other systems such as restaurants, shops, airports, and supermarkets. Also, this plug-in can work with the existing apple and google’s API for tracking COVID, which indicates if you’ve been close to someone that has COVID and by joining them it can help you avoid places with higher contamination.
